Carel Visser

Carel Nicolaas Visser (1928–2015) is regarded as one of the most important Dutch sculptors of the twentieth century. In the 1950s, Visser started experimenting with sculpture and made the transition from painting to three-dimensional work. His early sculptures were primarily abstract and made from materials such as iron, steel, and wood. He later expanded his use of materials to include rubber, glass, and plastic. Visser’s sculptures are characterized by a combination of geometric forms and organic elements. He was interested in the relationship between form and space and in how sculptures relate to their surroundings. His works are often abstract and minimalist, reflecting his pursuit of simplicity and essence.
