Cobra

Cobra was an influential European avant-garde movement active from 1948 to 1951, named after the cities Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam. Reacting against academic tradition and rigid abstraction, COBRA artists embraced spontaneity, bold color, and expressive, often childlike imagery. Drawing inspiration from folk art, mythology, and the unconscious, their works emphasize freedom, experimentation, and collective creativity. Within the context of 20th-century art, COBRA represents a powerful return to instinct and imagination in the aftermath of World War II.
